As an eternal student of life, I have intended to create this website as a collection of topics I find of interest. Most of these relate to data science, statistics and mathematics, but they occasionally broach on legal and social issues. In the present and future age of Large Language Models, I choose to present my thoughts and interests in a completely human way, without using LLMs. While AI has without doubt affected our relationship with knowledge, I believe that attempting to express ourselves by leveraging our naked intellect is worthwhile and important for the remnant stages of our humanity. This can mean that my writings are prone to mistakes, but the investigative spirit of the author is one of continuous improvement, be it from oneself or from others.

  • The Lotka-Volterra Differential Equations

The Lotka-Volterra model is a pair of coupled differential equations (namely, equations linked together through their dependent variables and/or their derivatives) that attempt to model populations of 2 species, namely a predator and a prey.

  • Capture-Recapture

Capture-Recapture methods are ingenious and efficient ways of deriving population parameters in the face of sampling constraints. Consider, for instance, that you wished to know the metropolitan population of pigeons. This would be a challenging task, and it would take a long time to mark every single pigeon. Capture-Recapture entails what its name indicates: capture a subset of the pigeon population, mark it, and release it. Then, on a second occasion, recapture a same-sized subset of the pigeon population. The ratio of marked to unmarked pigeons in your subset would then allow you to infer the total population.

  • Losses Loom Larger

Kahneman and Tversky showed that losses hurt roughly twice as much as equivalent gains feel good. A look at prospect theory, the value function, and why the status quo is so stubbornly hard to leave.

  • The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics

Wigner's famous phrase has aged into a cliché without losing its edge. Why should the Fourier transform, born from the study of heat, end up governing signal processing, quantum mechanics, and the shape of galaxies?

  • Notes on Capital and Time

Capital is stored time — the residue of past labour crystallised into something that can generate more of itself. Understanding compound growth is not merely a financial exercise; it is a meditation on patience, inequality, and the strange arithmetic of the future.

  • On Stoic Practice

The Stoics were not cold. They were precise. Their project was not the elimination of feeling but the cultivation of right judgement — a discipline as demanding, and as quietly revolutionary, as any mathematical proof.
